Australian Bicycle Helmet Requirements

To be legally supplied in Australia, a bicycle helmet must comply with the Consumer Goods (Bicycle Helmets) Safety Standard 2024.

This mandatory safety standard sets requirements for:

  • Helmet construction

  • Impact protection

  • Retention (chin strap) performance

  • Roll-off resistance

  • Testing procedures

  • Safety markings and labelling

  • User instructions supplied with the helmet

Suppliers must ensure helmets meet one of the recognised international standards before they can be sold in Australia. 

Accepted Helmet Standards

A bicycle helmet supplied in Australia may comply with any one of the following recognised standards:

  • AS/NZS 2063:2020 – Helmets for use on bicycles and wheeled recreational devices

  • AS/NZS 2063:2008 – Bicycle Helmets

  • US CPSC 16 CFR Part 1203 – Safety Standard for Bicycle Helmets

  • EN 1078:2012+A1:2012 – European bicycle helmet standard

  • ASTM F1447-18 – American bicycle helmet standard

  • Snell B-95 (1998 Revision) – Snell Bicycle Helmet Standard 

Noggin's Compliance

Noggin helmets are certified to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) 16 CFR Part 1203 bicycle helmet standard.

This is one of the approved standards recognised under Australia's mandatory bicycle helmet safety regulations for products supplied in Australia.

Important Note About the Hat Accessory

The removable Noggin bucket hat is an accessory only.

It is not protective equipment and is not independently certified as a safety device. The protective performance of the product comes from the certified bicycle helmet worn underneath.
